lyrics

Ode To Matlock Bath
In the middle of little old England
Far away from the briny strand
Lies a seaside resort but sad to report
That it has no sea nor sand

But the people come from miles around
And the words upon their lips
Are give me candy floss and beer
And lovely fish and chips

Well the local folk up on the hill
Look down with rueful smiles
For they love their valley and they don’t mind
If they share it for a while

‘Cause when the night comes down and the silence falls,
Still the river rolls on by,
And the mighty rocks on Lovers’ Walks
Rear upwards to the sky . . .

Bridge

So they all stay down by the riverside
It’s a tripper’s paradise
With amusement slots and we’ve got lots
Of sugared drinks on ice

Such a beautiful view I’ll bet he says
I’ll climb right up that hill
But with stuff piled high on his fast-food tray
He knows he never will

But when the night comes down and the silence falls,
Still the river rolls on by,
And the mighty rocks on Lovers’ Walks
Rear upwards to the sky . . .

Bridge

See and be seen it’s the biker’s dream
As he tears down the Parade
See and be seen make your Yammy scream
He thinks he’s got it made

Heads will turn when he makes it burn
The hills silently watch on
‘Cause they know he’s small not much at all
They’ll be here when he’s long gone

When the night comes down and silence falls,
Still the river rolls on by,
And the mighty rocks on Lovers’ Walks
Rear upwards to the sky . . .

Yes the village knows when the crowds have gone
Home from whence they came
They can have their lovely valley back
‘Til the tide comes in again
